How do we deal with the current uncertainty?

We are certainly living in interesting times, as the world order in place since the end of the Second World War, starts to collapse.

In his book, “Out of the Wreckage”, George Monbiot wrote that human cooperation is our species’ greatest evolutionary strength. The Trump administration doesn’t subscribe to that view. In fact, collaboration and cooperation seem to be anathema to the administration. As a result, the shockwaves from an escalating tariff war and attacks against the rule of law are being felt around the world.

In my book, “The Power of Wellbeing“, Monbiot’s words provide a timely reminder that despite our most competitive impulses and nature, success is not always a zero-sum game. Instead, focusing on the betterment of all can yield results for the betterment of you and me – in short, society as a whole.

I wrote “The Power of Wellbeing” during the almost now forgotten Covid 19 pandemic years and advocated for the quiet benefits of cooperation and wellbeing. In New Zealand, a number of wellbeing metrics were implemented that I believe have helped the country focus on what really matters: the people as a whole. I propose my own model of General Wellbeing (GWB) as a framework for how any country can implement means that do more than maintain the economy, but help people flourish and thrive.

I summarised the model in these terms:

All of this raises some questions:

✔Are we fighting for the people and ensuring that their needs are met?

✔ How do we respond to the tariff war and attacks against the rule of law?

❌Or are we best just to keep our heads down and hope the storm passes?

💬I would love to hear what you think.
